Of course, we can always rely on 'The Times' for a completely fair, balanced and impartial view of discussions on the future of the 91¸£ÀûÉç Licence Fee...[surely, Telly-Tax? Rupert]
The 91¸£ÀûÉç is easy pray for Government belt tightening because of the compulsory nature of the Fee. HMG are the protector of the public purse and the champions of public broadcasting at one and the same time.
I find it amazing that even today the Hutton Enquiry seems to be a taboo subject. The way the 91¸£ÀûÉç were treated by the Government was an absolute disgrace especially after the claims made by the 91¸£ÀûÉç at the time that resulted in the Hutton Enquiry were proven to be true! History has vindicated Andrew Gilligan and Greg Dyke and the dossier that was used to promote the war in Iraq has been proven to have been massaged towards that event. The Government demanded an apology from the 91¸£ÀûÉç and the sacking of scapegoats, but where's the apology for the 91¸£ÀûÉç for the disgraceful treatment received at the hands of this Government?
