Mal Pope was born in Brynhyfryd, Swansea on 18 May 1960. A musical family, Mal's grandmother was an accomplished organist and played at church events.
Going further back, his great grandfather had been the conductor of a local chapel orchestra and had made a name as a hymn writer.
