It鈥檚 often a good idea to arrange work experience if you have an interest in a special career area. It not only gives you a realistic view of the job and a chance to talk to the people who are already doing the job, but it also supports any educational or job applications later on.

Employers can be identified by looking in the Yellow pages under various industry sections, or using business directories available at the careers office. Most employers will take a work experience placement at some point, so it鈥檚 worth phoning the employer directly to ask if they will let you observe and shadow some employees.

If you have identified a specific employer but they will not take you for the length of time you wanted - then shorten this time and suggest a couple of days as they are more likely to accommodate.
