Can I still access 91�� Live Radio on my Sonos?

Yes. We’ve made some changes to how you access 91�� live radio.

You can listen to live 91�� radio by adding 91�� Sounds in the Sonos Controller app.

Can I use 91�� Sounds with my Sonos device?

We have released a version of 91�� Sounds on the Sonos platform, meaning you’ll be able to listen on your Sonos device via the Sonos S2 controller app.

This means that both iOS and Android users can now get a full, personalised 91�� Sounds experience on their Sonos speakers.

To enable 91�� Sounds on Sonos, open the Sonos app on your device, then:

Tap on 'Settings'
Tap on 'Services and Voice'
Scroll down to the bottom and tap on 'Add a service'
Scroll until you find 91�� Sounds and tap 'Add'
Connect your 91�� account with your Sonos account
That's it!

Listen live to all our radio stations, including all local stations in high quality streaming audio

Search for 91�� content using Sonos search
'Star' (favourite) certain elements so they appear on your My Sonos homescreen (for example, Listen Live, Continue Listening, Recommended For You)

You can also use Sonos on desktop by installing the Sonos desktop application. Choose 'Select a Music Source,' then 'Add Music Services' to find 91�� Sounds.

At the moment, 91�� Sounds is available on the Sonos controller app within the UK only.

If you are in the UK and unable to find the 91�� Sounds service on the Sonos app, your account may not be registered to the UK. You can find out how to check this on the Sonos Help Site.

What is Multi-Room?

Multi-Room allows you to play your favourite 91�� Sounds music, podcasts or radio stations on multiple Alexa-enabled devices at the same time with our Alexa skill. To find out more, have a look here: Amazon Multi-Room.

Please note, the 91�� is not responsible for content on third-party websites.

How do I set up and use Multi-Room?

You first need to set up speaker group/s in the Alexa app. For information and support on how to do this, have a look at the following page: Play Music with Multiple Alexa Devices.

Please note, we recommend using the default group names provided when setting up device and speaker groups.

Once you have set your speaker group/s up you can ask for any 91�� Sounds content to be played on the group, rather than a single device, for example:

‘Alexa, Ask 91�� Sounds to play Radio 4 on the Everywhere group’
‘Alexa, Ask 91�� Sounds to play Desert Island Discs in the Kitchen’
‘Alexa, Ask 91�� Sounds to play Focus Beats on the Study group’

What is 'Send a Comment' and how do I use it?

'Send a Comment' allows you to send a comment directly to any 91�� radio station from your Alexa device.

Why should I use 'Send a Comment'?

'Send a Comment' allows you to connect with your favourite radio station and its presenters. Experience hands-free messaging without the need to reach for your phone or type on your keyboard. Join in on topical questions, polls and discussions with ease using your Alexa device.

How do I send a comment to the radio station?

To send a comment to the studio:

Step 1: Say “Alexa, ask 91�� Sounds to send a comment.”
- You will be asked to leave your name and comment for the radio station after a tone.
Step 2: Step 2: After you hear the tone, say your name and comment.
- The name and comment will be repeated back to you and you will be asked if you would like to send it.
Step 3: Say “Yes” if you’re happy to send the comment or “No” if you’re not.
- If you say “No” you will be asked to say your name and comment again. The name and comment will then be repeated back to you and you will be asked if you would like to send it.
Step 4: Alexa will then send your name and comment.
- Your name and comment is converted to text for the studio to view.
- You can cancel your name and comment at any time during the process by saying “Alexa, cancel.”

I am told that my 91�� account is not verified. What should I do?

You are only able to send comments via Alexa if the email address used to create your 91�� account has been verified.

Check your email inbox to find an email from bbcaccount@bbc.co.uk titled ‘Please verify your email address’. Click on the button: ‘Verify your email address.’ Once this is done you can retry sending a comment through your Alexa device.

If you are unable to find the email please check your spam folder. Always ensure that the email is from bbcaccount@bbc.co.uk to avoid any phishing scams.

I am receiving a message “This feature is not available for users in your age group”. What should I do?

Messages can only be sent to the station through 91�� accounts for users above the age of 16.

Do I have to be listening to the radio station at the time to send a comment?

You can send a comment into a live radio station at anytime whether you are listening to it or not. Just say “Alexa, ask 91�� Sounds to send a comment” if you’re already listening to the station, or “Alexa, ask 91�� Sounds to send a comment to [station name]” if you’re not listening to the station you want to send it to.

Can I use 91�� Sounds with my Apple Siri device?

91�� Sounds is not currently available via voice commands on Apple 91��Pod or Apple TV.

However, if you have the 91�� Sounds app on an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch, you can use the AirPlay feature to stream 91�� Sounds to your Apple 91��Pod or Apple TV. This feature is not supported from an Android device.

91�� Sounds listeners on iOS mobile devices running iOS version 12.2 or higher can use Siri shortcuts to access 91�� Sounds. You can create custom shortcuts to launch live radio via the Siri Shortcuts app.

How do I link my 91�� account to the 91�� Sounds skill on Alexa?

It’s quick and easy to link your 91�� account to the 91�� Sounds skill on Alexa. Follow this handy step by step guide for tips.

Before you start

To listen to live radio and other 91�� Sounds content on Alexa you’ll need to be in the UK.
You will need to have the 91�� Sounds skill enabled on your Alexa device, and have a 91�� account. If you don’t have an account, you can register for a 91�� account here.
Make sure you’re using the Amazon profile that you want your 91�� account linked to. You can do this by saying “Alexa, who am I?” If you’re on the wrong profile, say “Alexa, switch profile” or “Alexa, switch to [your first name]’s profile.”

How do I enable the 91�� Sounds skill?

Just say, “Alexa, open 91�� Sounds” to your Alexa device. Your device will then ask if you’d like to enable the skill - say "yes" to proceed.

Make sure you’re on the correct adult Amazon profile before connecting your 91�� account

To do this say "Alexa, Who am I?" If you’re on the wrong account say "Alexa, switch account."
If you are still being asked to sign in after linking and signing into your 91�� account, make sure you are on the correct Amazon household profile and that the profile is linked to your 91�� account. Make sure the device is setup with your Amazon household profile.

There are four ways to link your 91�� account to the 91�� Sounds skill on Alexa:

Link your 91�� account using a notification on your phone.
Link your 91�� account using the QR code on your Echo device with a screen.
Link your 91�� account using the prompt on your Alexa app homescreen.

Step 1
Open the skill on your Echo device by saying, "Alexa, open 91�� Sounds." If you have notifications enabled from the Alexa app you will receive an account linking notification to your device.

Step 2
Check your phone for a notification sent from Amazon Alexa. Tap this notification to be taken to the Alexa app.

Step 3
Tap ‘Continue’ to move onto the next step.

Step 4
Enter your email address and password for your 91�� account, then tap ‘Sign in’. If you don’t have a 91�� account, simply tap on the ‘Register now’ link and follow the steps to create one.

Step 2
Open your phone’s camera and point it at your Echo’s screen. Then tap on the notification that appears. This will open the 91�� Sounds skill account linking page within the Alexa app.

Tap on ‘Link Account’ then tap ‘Continue’ to move onto the next step.

Step 4

To get started, say "Alexa, open 91�� Sounds." When prompted, ask for the name of the live radio station, programme, podcast or music mix that you want to listen to.

If you’re using an Alexa device with a screen, like an Echo Show, you’ll also see the screen shown below. From here, you can browse and play content through additional options like Radio, Music, Podcasts, and Your Listening History.

To browse through the list, swipe left or right on the screen with your finger, or say “Alexa, scroll left,” or “Alexa, scroll right.”
To select an item in the list, simply tap it, or when prompted, say the name of the item you want to browse, for example “Alexa, browse music.”
Each item is also numbered, for example “Browse Radio” is item ‘1’ in the list, you can select this item by saying, “Alexa, select the first item.”

Live Radio

You can now restart, rewind, and fast-forward radio shows on the 91�� Sounds Alexa skill.

The 91�� Sounds Alexa skill now gives you the ability to rewind and fast-forward radio, or restart the show you’re listening to. 91�� Sounds is the only radio provider in the UK to offer this functionality.

How to play live radio

To start playing live radio say, "Alexa, play [live radio station]." For example, "Alexa, play 6 Music” or "Alexa, play Radio 2.”

How to find out what's playing on live radio

To find out what song or programme is currently playing on a live station say, "Alexa, ask 91�� Sounds what's playing."
If you're listening to a rewound stream, you can say "Alexa, ask 91�� Sounds what's playing" to find out the station and show you're currently listening to.

How to restart live radio

Love The Archers but missed the start on Radio 4? No problem, just say, “Alexa, ask 91�� Sounds to restart,” and we’ll take you to the start of the show.

How to rewind live radio

Listening to Radio 2 and missed Ten To The Top? “Alexa, ask 91�� Sounds to rewind to 10.30am.”
Asked for Radio 1 just as your favourite song is ending? “Alexa, ask 91�� Sounds to rewind 3 minutes.”
And if you’ve just missed a goal on 5 Live, “Alexa, ask 91�� Sounds to rewind” will rewind one minute.

How to fast-forward or return to live radio

You can fast-forward by using the corresponding requests, for example “Alexa, ask 91�� Sounds to fast-forward to 9.30pm / 5 minutes.”
And when you’re ready to listen live again, just say, “Alexa, ask 91�� Sounds to return to live.”

How to pause and resume live radio

You can also pause and resume live streams by saying "Alexa, pause" and "Alexa, resume."

How to browse and play 91�� live radio on a screened Alexa device

If you’re using an Alexa device with a screen, such as an Echo Show, you can also browse and play 91�� live radio stations in additional ways. To begin, say: “Alexa, ask 91�� Sounds to browse radio.” The screen shown below will then appear, allowing you to explore 91�� live radio stations and see what’s currently on air. Your last listened to station will appear at the start of the rail for easier access.

To browse through the list, swipe left or right on the screen with your finger, or say “Alexa, scroll left,” or “Alexa, scroll right.”

How do I set up an Alexa Routine?

Wake up with 91�� Sounds. Routines are a great way to fit 91�� content into your daily activities. Wake up at the same time each day to your favourite radio station, catch up with the news at lunchtime, or hear the latest episode of your favourite podcast when you say a specific phrase.

Ready-made routines to try

Tune in to morning radio using these routines…

6:00am – Wake up to Radio 4 [add this routine]
6:30am - Wake up to Radio 2 [add this routine]
7:30am - Wake up to Radio 1 [add this routine]

You can customise each of these routines when you add them.

How to use these routines...

On a mobile phone, tap ‘Add this routine’. On any other device, click ‘Add this routine’, then use your phone’s camera to scan the QR code that appears on screen.
The Alexa app will open. Tap the ‘View routine’ button.
Confirm the actions when prompted.
Customise it if you want to.
Select the device you want the content to play from, then tap ‘Save’.

How to set up your own 91�� routines

Open the Amazon Alexa app on your mobile device.
Tap the three horizontal lines in the bottom navigation bar.
Tap ‘Routines’.
Tap ‘+’ in the top right-hand corner.
Name your routine.
Tap ‘Add an event’ (when do you want the routine to run?). The trigger can be a time, or something you say.
Tap ‘Add an action’ (what do you want Alexa to do when the routine runs?). Choose the action type ‘Customised’, and type in what you’d like to happen, for example, “Play Radio 2”, “Play 91�� News”, or “Play All Day Chill Mix”.
Tap ‘Save’.
