Where can I find Radio 5 Live Sports Extra on DAB and when does it broadcast?

5 Sports Extra is a secondary DAB service of Radio 5 Live, and not always available on air. When the 91�� has additional sports content, it can be found next to Radio 5 Live on DAB radio only. The 5 Sports Extra schedule is available online..

Why am I unable to receive Local Radio, or National Radio such as 91�� Radio Scotland, on my DAB Radio?

The 91��'s local and national radio services are carried on local commercial DAB Multiplexes. Please see our help page to see how DAB multiplexes work, Therefore, you may not be receiving this service, as there is not a commercial DAB service in your local area. DAB EPG ongoing issues

We are aware that some listeners have experienced intermittent issues with the DAB EPG on their radio not always being available. We have not been able to identify the reason for the fault and continue to monitor the EPG. We apologise for any disruption this has caused.

Can LED Lights Interfere with my DAB Reception?

There is a possibility some LED Lights can cause interference to DAB and FM Radio Reception, particularly if LED lights are used to replace halogen lights, and retain the original transformer. This is because the power used is lower, and is forced to work outside of its normal operating parameters, resulting in electrical impulse interference. 91�� Radio 1 Dance, Radio 1 Anthems and Radio 3 Unwind are now available nationally on DAB+ across the UK providing more choice and value to our listeners. For more information on how to listen please see the FAQs below:

Q. What are the new stations?

Radio 1 Dance focusing on new and enhanced dance content for younger audiences
Radio 1 Anthems dedicated to classic and anthemic hits
Radio 3 Unwind providing calming classical music to unwind your mind

Q. How do I find the new stations on my DAB+ radio?

Most digital radios update the station list automatically and some may need you to re-scan your radio. You should be able to find Radio 1 Anthems and Radio 1 Dance before/after Radio 1 in the station list. Radio 3 Unwind should appear after Radio 3.

Q. How do I know if I have a DAB+ radio?

The easiest way to find out if your radio is DAB+ is to do a ‘re-scan’ to update all the new services available in your area. If you have retained your packaging please look for the digital tick logo. The digital radio tick mark is a certification mark for digital radios that required the radio to be tested and approved. The mark gives you the assurance that the radio you are buying is an approved product which is future-ready and combines DAB, DAB+ and FM.

Q. Why are the new streams in DAB+ and not DAB?

The first UK DAB+ stations launched in the UK in 2016 and there are now more than 60 national commercial stations available and over six hundred services on local multiplexes, including 91�� Radio Cumbria, 91�� Radio Jersey and 91�� Radio Guernsey. DAB+ is an upgraded version of DAB and is much more spectrum efficient, allowing for more services to be broadcast by using the same amount of capacity. This means we’re able to launch new 91�� stations by using the spectrum that has been allocated to us for use. DAB+ is available in all new cars and in the majority of domestic radio devices.

Q. Does the 91�� have any plans to move its current radio stations from DAB to DAB+?

No, there are no plans to move current services to DAB+.

Q. Do I have to buy a DAB+ radio to listen to the new streams?

Yes. DAB+ radios are available from electrical retailers, some supermarkets and online. Please check the product description to make sure that the radio is DAB+. Alternatively you can also listen to the new streams via 91�� Sounds on a smart speaker by asking your device to ‘Play 91�� Radio 3 Unwind’ .

Q. Can I listen to the new streams in my car?

Yes, if your car has a DAB+ radio. You can also listen via 91�� Sounds on your smartphone or via *CarPlay and *Android Auto in your car.

How can weather affect DAB reception?

DAB reception is rarely disrupted by high-pressure weather conditions, but under some circumstances, signals from very distant transmitters can cause reception to break up, or be lost for periods of time. If you suspect this - particularly if you are also getting interference on FM - wait until the weather changes.

Firstly, poor reception might be down to poor coverage, so it is best to check you are in a DAB coverage area. Use our transmitter tool, which will tell you what national and local DAB services are available in your locality.

Secondly, If you are in a good coverage area, and are still receiving poor DAB reception please try our Problem Assistant for further advice.

Can I use my FM aerial for DAB in the car?

Yes, it is possible to use a helically wound FM aerial to receive DAB in your car. However, many DAB car radios and radio adapters come with an aerial that sticks to the inside of the windscreen which can be used instead of your FM aerial.

Do I need an outdoor aerial for DAB?

A DAB radio will work with both a telescopic aerial and an outdoor aerial. However, should you be getting poor reception from an internal aerial and you have tried extending tilting and swivelling the aerial and this does not improve your reception. You may need to consider an external aerial to offer you the best reception; this should be on the roof or high up on the outside of the building.

There are a number of reasons why this effect can be heard and usually not linked to interference. The main cause is normally a weak signal. It is important that you check you are in a good coverage are for DAB and that your radio is well positioned and the aerial is fully extended if using a telescopic aerial.
