C91¸£ÀûÉç has relaunched six of its online games with Switch technology – making them accessible to children with motor and cognitive disabilities.

Ìý

With the Switch option, children with motor or cognitive disabilities will be able to enjoy playing Scuba Scramble, Walkie Talkie, Target Zone, Splat Attack, Line Of Defence and Tuneulator without needing to manipulate a mouse or keyboard.

Ìý

CBeebies currently employs Switch technology to ensure its games are accessible to the 91¸£ÀûÉç's younger viewers. The 91¸£ÀûÉç now aims to offer games for all children, whatever their age or ability.

Ìý

The 91¸£ÀûÉç is unique amongst broadcasters in its determination to make its broadcast and online services as accessible as possible.

Notes to Editors

Ìý

Switches are the specialist items of hardware which can be plugged into a computer instead of the mouse. They enable children to access a computer when their disability might normally prevent them from doing so.

Brief descriptions of games:

Ìý

  • Scuba Scramble – You are deep sea diving in the Maldives. Using the radar dive deep to find the treasure but don't take too much time or your air supply will run out.

  • Walkie Talkie – It seems that everybody needs your help. Your youth club is full of people needing your advice. But can you find everyone to give them some good advice before the time runes out?

  • Target Zone – Outside it's raining eggs. They are falling from the sky. Your mission should you choose to accept it is to catch as many eggs as possible.

  • Splat Attack – It's water fight time with Target Zone. You have lots of wet sponges but how many running children can you get soaked in the park?

  • Line Of Defence – A quiet day in the garden and suddenly loads of people start throwing tennis balls at your legs. What to do? Well luckily you have a bat to protect yourself. How long can you keep hitting balls away before finally they penetrate your line of defence?

  • Tuneulator (launching soon) – Get musical! Choose a group, pop, classical or world music and get playing. Make sure you listen to them carefully and copy their moves or you could be out of the band.
