East Belfast 4th Feb 2003 |

This was the scene this morning from my top floor
window, looking over the rooftops towards Black Mountain,
with the cranes of Harland and Wolff in the foreground.
Most of Northern Ireland was affected in some form
or another. Mid Ulster, Co.Tyrone in particular seeing
five or six inches.
Not much snow in comparison to bad winters past,
but enough to disrupt journeys and drive up bacon
butty sales!
The worst winter I remember was 1975/76 (I think ).It
was followed by a glorious summer which more than
made up for the snow and ice.

I love this website. I go on at night when I'm doing
nightshift in London and I get so homesick! The sight
of those snow covered roofs in East Belfast with Samson
and Goliath (giant shipyard cranes) in the distance
brings it all back. I want my mammy!
I remember in Thistle Street in the 60's, being very
small and playing with the other children in the snow.
It was brilliant building a snowman with my Granda
Marshall.
As a child I insisted on wearing rubbers (welly boots)
in the summer and sandals in the winter. So I suppose
I wouldn't have minded our outside toilet when it
snowed either.
I also sucked on a dummy tit until I was 7 and it
was the 'Streets' mission to hide them from me. When
I got pocket money I used to buy another from the
corner shop near the Rupert Stanley college. Peggy's
was it?
It always snowed at Christmas too then. Didn't it?
That tardis is so wasted on Billie Piper!
