Mary Peters

An archive choice of olympian proportions!

Peters, shown here high jumping, won the gold after a titanic struggle with local heroine Heide Rosendahl

A reminder of the glory days of one of Northern Ireland's best loved olympic champions.

For many years Mary Peters was the golden girl of Northern Ireland athletics. The Pentathlon was her event and between 1961 and 1974 she represented Northern Ireland and Great Britain, winning many accolades. In January 1972 she talked to Mark Andrews about her athletics career and olympic hopes.
