Direct from a sell-out season in London and an arena tour with Cher, the infamous trolley dolly Pam Ann is now extending her wings to encompass routes across the UK. Poking fun at economy, dishing dirt on other airlines and terrorising her passengers with safety demos, Pam is now preparing to lower her under-carriage in Norfolk. The alter-ego of comedienne Caroline Reid, Pam's been described as the trolley dolly from hell. In these days of the budget airline, Pam Ann is a throw back to the glamorous era of air travel but with cargo-hold of kitsch. "I dressed up as a flight attendant at a birthday party and I drunkenly heard a friend pronounce Panam as Pam Ann - I thought what a good name for a character. I'd always wanted to do a one woman show and I knew this was the one," said Caroline. "I think Pam is older than me, maybe early 40s. She's a bit of a whore I think.

"She really is the economy passenger, which is why she has such issues about them on her flights. Pam's crawled her way into first and she's not letting go," she added. Flying high is one thing, but with Pam it's more a case of high camp as Reid's one woman show hits home with the Ab-Fab set. It's also a sure fire winner with pink pound. "I've always hung around with gay men," said Caroline. "The show was never specifically targeted at a gay audience, but they seemed to go for it and it was logical when I first performed in London that it was at a gay club," she added. Pam Ann has redefined the term ‘jet set’ when Elton John booked her as the in-flight entertainment on his private jet to Venice for David Furnish's 40th birthday party. Guests included a few dozen celebrity friends, including the Beckhams. "They gave me a list of all the people on board and I was in shock. I phoned my mum and she couldn't believe it," said Caroline. Pam Ann 'Flying High' performs at the Norwich Playhouse on Wednesday 2 November, 2005. For more details call the box office on 01603 598598. |
