Five wins for women
On International Women's Day, we look at five ways our work has supported women and girls
shows that, around the world, women still hold just 64% of the legal rights of men 鈥 across such fundamental areas of life including work, finances, safety, family, property, mobility, business and retirement.
Making progress on the rights of women and girls requires more than promises. It requires action.
Here are five ways our work delivered for women and girls this year, by showing the power of media to shift conversations and bridge divides.
1. Standing with survivors of trafficking 鈥 Nigeria
In Edo State, we worked with survivors, local radio stations and community leaders to tackle sex trafficking through powerful docudramas and survivor-led partnerships 鈥 ensuring women shape the solutions.
2. Challenging stigma against women waste pickers 鈥 India
Through our PRIDE project and #Invaluables integrated campaign - from billboards to working with influencers - we continued working to dismantle stigma and discrimination faced by waste collectors, many of whom are women working in deeply marginalised conditions. As part of this project, our viral #WashtheDabba campaign won an Anthem Award for its impact!
3. Empowering women in journalism in Zambia - the Moto project
The Moto (Fire) Initiative in Zambia supports female journalists to develop skills in public interest journalism and to pursue original stories, including investigative stories that make a difference for their communities. We're proud that many of them have gone on to win awards for their brave coverage.
4. Essential health information for women 鈥 Afghanistan
Through our radio programme 鈥淒arman (Healing)鈥, and work with local radio stations across the country, we provided , nutrition and women鈥檚 rights under Sharia law 鈥 reaching women whose movement and access to services are severely restricted
5. Flight of courage: celebrating women entrepreneurs in Nepal
In Nepal, we have been using the power of media to showcase inspiring stories of women who've overcome all odds to establish themselves as business leaders. Read their stories.

Stigma challenged, silence broken, norms shifted.
We're standing in solidarity and partnership with women and girls around the world.
Our impact areas
-
Building stronger democracies
We strengthen democracy by supporting public interest media content and platforms that enable vulnerable people to participate in democratic processes as active and informed citizens who are better able to understand and address the biggest challenges they and the world are facing. -
A safer, more habitable planet
We contribute to a safer and more habitable planet by providing an information lifeline in humanitarian emergencies, by supporting information flows that help people adapt to climate change, live sustainable lifestyles and protect nature, and by supporting balanced discussion of conflict and division. -
More inclusive societies
By ensuring everyone has access to trustworthy information and fair representation, our work supports the UN SDG commitment to 鈥渓eave no one behind鈥. We meaningfully include people who are often marginalised or excluded in society; addressing gender norms and barriers, the rights of people with disabilities and of LGBTQI+ communities, improving access to health, education and work opportunities.
