Writing an Essay
Using Questionnaires

This is what Becky's questionnaire looks like. Read through it carefully. Do you think that she followed all the rules mentioned in the exercise on the previous page?

Using The Questionnaire Data

key pointOnce Becky has collated all the information in her spreadsheet, she can use the information in the following ways:

  • To compare different age groups to find out if age was a factor in preferences for a mixed or single sex gym;
  • To examine the number of respondents that own a car to establish whether these are the same people who would use a gym;
  • To compare preferences of staffed and un-staffed gyms to see if there is a gender difference in the responses;
  • To look at how much people would expect to pay for the facilities, how old people were and whether women expected to pay more than men.

It's a good idea to use charts to present some of your statistical information. There's no need to go over the top though. Charts help to clarify or illustrate the main points of your discussion. Remember to stick to the point.

Now it's time to start planning the essay.
