ProfilesYou are in: Humber > People > Profiles > Singing her way to stardom ![]() Singing her way to stardom15-year-old Laura Prescott entered the Live and Unsigned competition last year and has fought off 10,000 singers and bands to reach the regional finals, which will be held in Sheffield on Saturday. Laura will be up against 15 people in this weekend鈥檚 round, where two contestants will go through to the National finals in London. Live and Unsigned is a national competition which allows bands and singers to showcase their talents and perform live. The winning act receives a recording and management contract worth up to 拢20,000. The Beverley-based singer, who attends St Mary鈥檚 College in Hull, began song-writing just over a year ago (when she was in Year 9) and now has six songs to her play list. Laura is a talented musician who won the Middlesbrough Catholic Diocese talent competition, Pope Idol last year. But Laura is not content with singing and writing songs, she also plays an array of musical instruments including the piano, clarinet, percussion and the guitar. Along with her family and friends, the MySpace community have also been appreciating Laura鈥檚 music and encouraging her by leaving comments on her profile page. 鈥淚t feels like you鈥檙e famous already. I鈥檝e had people from Texas who have been commenting. It feels really good,鈥 says Laura. There is musical blood in the family; Laura鈥檚 mum is a music teacher at South Hunsley School.
