I read听an article about 'bluffing' (mixing on computers).听 I听 don't own real decks听and听computer 'decks'听 are cheaper and easier to use. 听Is听doing a laptop set听an acceptable alternative to proper decks?
This is a really good question and I'd love to get the opinions of some of the other 1Xtra DJs on this.
I think its cool to do the 'computer DJing' thing because you're making good use of technology and you might not have any other way to get into the noble art (of DJing) if you cant afford a decent set of turntables. So in that respect I think it's acceptable.
However, coming from the old school, I still think it's cheating to a degree.
There is a big difference between doing a mix and being a mix DJ. While I think its cool to use whatever technology you听can, to enhance your mix ideas,听actual DJing (or being a DJ full stop) 听is the domain of vinyl, decks and CDJs. This requires more hands-on skills and though obviously biased, I think that is the real 'DJ' in every sense.
What do you think? This argument could go on for days.
